Year 5 hit London!

The alarm was set....(several alarms in some cases!)
Children all arrived excited and, thankfully, on time.  The train journey was even longer than expected following a diversion via Rugby but we eventually arrived in London. And so began the next exciting part of the adventure, travelling on the London Underground. It was a fairly massive undertaking, coordinating 53 children and 9 adults but the pupils were fantastic following instructions and the whole operation, and many subsequent similar journeys went perfectly.
Next stop was the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square. Our museum guides gave captivating presentations on some of the paintings featured in our Autumn Term class story, "Framed" by Frank Cottrell Boyce, and the children asked and answered questions superbly.  After lunch, the Bryn Hedydd staff had a go as tour guides as we continued exploring the gallery for further treasures.
Then it was off across London again to the a Tower of London Poppies Installation, a beautiful temporary exhibit consisting of thousands of ceramic poppies.  It was in the process of being taken down, but there was still enough there to make a visually stunning and moving impact.
We then made our way back westward to the London Eye area for our river cruise.  The sights of London were beautiful under the setting sun and the children showed a tremendous appetite for learning about the historic landmarks and modern architecture.  Even the cold wind couldn't dampen their enthusiasm.
Sadly it was then time to begin the long, long journey home. But not before we had sampled the takeaway food delights of Euston Station!
We finally made it back to Rhyl, safe and sound, at around 9 o'clock. Some very tired, but happy children (and even more tired staff) glad to be home and ready for bed.
Thankyou to all the staff who gave up their time to allow the pupils a truly memorable day out.
