Croeso to our school website! We believe that every step of your child's education is as important as the one before. With this in mind, we strive continually to provide inspiring learning experiences for children.
As you probably know, in Year 6 a team of pupils usually take part in the National F1 in Schools competition, which is designed to encourage engineering in schools. This year we are entering a team of 4 in a different category than previous years, where the car is designed and made out of cardboard here in school as opposed to being made out of balsa wood externally.
As only 4 pupils can be selected for the school team, that leaves the majority of children without the chance to learn the same skills that participating in this competition provides. So, with this in mind, this year we are holding our own Year 6 F1 In Schools competition on Tuesday October 15th.
All pupils will be observed working on this project and 4 pupils will be selected to form our ‘Official School F1 Team’ who will then compete in the North Wales finals in November.
All Year 6 pupils will have the chance to design and make their own F1 Car using the new software and cutting machine we have in school and, in their teams of 3, pupils will spend the day racing their cars on the official F1 In Schools track. They will be judged on their team image/identity and their knowledge of the project. Points will be given for each area and the overall winning team will be crowned BH F1 Champions, which is the same process used in the National competition.
So, in addition to designing their car, pupils will also have to come up with a team identity/image and design posters, leaflets, promotional items etc, to market their team. Each team will be given a table on the day (their own team ‘pit stand’) to display their project work and promote their team.
Part of the F1 project is for teams to raise ‘sponsorship’ to help promote and fund their team. Pupils have been asked to come up with team fundraising ideas, and/or be sponsored by family for doing jobs around the house etc. The aim is for the children to raise the money - not just be given it. All sponsorship money raised will be used to fund this project. A guide figure to cover the cost of this project is £10 per team. Any additional funds raised will go towards our official F1 In Schools team to help them in their campaign.
Although the majority of work will be carried out in school, pupils may choose to work on the project at home, designing leaflets, booklets, posters, team image etc. Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.
We are sure this project and event will be a big success and greatly enjoyed by all pupils.
