  • YBH become 'F1 IN SCHOOLS BRITISH CHAMPIONS 2012'

    Thu 28 Jun 2012
Out of approximately 180 teams from all over Great Britain, Ysgol Bryn Hedydd's F1 in Schools 2012 team, BH DDRAIG, yesterday became F1 in Schools British Champions (Primary).

Regional finals had been carried out between January and April at 10 venues across England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

BH Ddraig, having won the North Wales Finals went on to compete at the National finals at 'Thinktank' Museum in Birmingham.

The teams had taken up the challenge to design, build, test and race a miniature F1 car, with yesterday being spent having their entries judged in a number of categories including scrutineering, engineering, verbal presentation, pit presentation and display, as well as the car’s speed being tested on the bespoke F1 in Schools test track, a 20 metre long drag strip, which the F1 in Schools F1 cars cover in just over a second.

Our team 'BH DDRAIG', comprising of Sadie Wagstaff,(team manager) Louis Morgan, Max Evans, Holly Jones, Paris Halliday and Lydia Harrison have worked tremendously hard to achieve this result.

Not only did they win the overall title of 'F1 in Schools British Champions' they also picked up the award for the 'Best Verbal Presentation' on the day.

Mr Cannon has run F1 in Schools every year in Ysgol Bryn Hedydd for the last 4 years, and has worked hard with the children to improve the project year on year.

To win overall British Champions is such a huge achievement and honour.

We are so proud of the children who make up the team. They have given up many hours of their own time to make this year's project the success it has become.

They have made us all here in Ysgol Bryn Hedydd very proud.

Congratulations BH Ddraig - well done to you all!!!!

The project, which forms part of the 'Cultural Olympiad', reaches its climax at Denbigh Castel on the evening of Sunday July 8th with a perfomance which promises to be spectuacular.

32 children form Year 5 will be working sas puppeteers to tell part of an epic story. The evening performance has many more suprises and promises to be a memorable family event. Tickets (£2) are available from Mrs Rodgers in schoool until Friday June 22nd and after that, are available from Denbigh Library.
