• We wave goodbye to half the school today!

  A busy day ahead in Ysgol Bryn Hedydd today!
  
  We will have lots of coaches coming to school to take different Year Groups on their residential courses. And what beautiful weather we have ordered for it too!
  
  Children from Year 5 and 6 will be going to Nant BH. They will have a fantastic time with Mr Vincent, Mrs Roberts and Mrs Hughes.
  
  Then we have Year 4 who are off with Mr Cannon and Mrs Lees for a couple of days to Pentrellyncymer. Hope you've packed everything you need!
  
  Wednesday will be swap over day, with both residential visits having a new influx of children from Year 4,5 and 6. This will also be the day that some other Year 6's are off to Glan Llyn to meet up with other schools and share their knowledge of the Welsh language.
  
  Year 3 are also taking part in some trips this week on Wednesday and Thursday! They are off to Aberduna Quarry to finish off their topic on Buildings and Materials.
  
  We wish all the children a safe trip and lots of fun and learning experiences. We want lots of photos and will publish some accounts when the children get back.

• Termly Talent Show takes place!

  For lots of people at Ysgol Bryn Hedydd, today felt like the last day of term!
  
  What with our Star of the Term Service and Talent Show. 
  
  However, with so many children and staff out next week, we felt we had to bring some of the most important dates in the School calendar forward!
  
  Thank you to all the children and staff who helped organise the event.
  
  Thank you also to all those children who took part. You did fantastically well!

• Torchbearers Street Route in Rhyl, May 29th

  Thank you to Mrs Sykes, our School Governor for notifying us about the updated information regarding the Olympic Torch.
  
  Open the attachment on the Latest News Documents page to see the Torchbearer Street Route being taken by the torch.
  
  Remember on Tuesday 29th May, our School will be closing at 1 p.m in order for children to experience the sight of the Olympic Torch.

• Do you love writing stories?...read on

  For those who love writing stories, here is a competition for you!
  
  Tesco Goodness for kids are running a children's writing competition all about health.
  
  A panel of judges will award prizes to the three most original stories from each age group [2-5 this age group may dictate their story for parents to transcribe, 6-8 and 9-12] that best reflect healthy living and eating, and bring the three Goodness characters - Grace, Archie and Oscar - to life.
  
  Stories should be 200-300 words long. All entries must be received by Wednesday 28th March.
  
  Please ensure the parental/ guardian consent form is obtained before entering the competition and please view the terms and conditions of this competition.

  Submit your entry along with the consent form to Mrs Williams [Year 3]

You will also receive a selection of books and enjoy a family zookeeper day at Paradise Wildlife Park in Hertfordshire with a one-night stay at the Chestnut Marriott as well as receive a £500 donation to the school's book fund!

• The Big Pedal

  The 'Big Pedal' starts next Monday 5th March until Friday 23rd. We ask as many of you as possible to cycle/ scooter to school with a grown up. Every single journey counts!
  We are really trying to beat our previous record of 33rd in the UK last year.
  
  So starting on Monday, every adult and child who cycles or scooters to school is recorded by their class teacher, the information is collected by the Year 6 Bike It Crew and entered into the National database. 
  
  Many thanks for your support!
  
  Results for 2012 - For the record we came 50th in the UK this year and 3rd in Wales.
  This is a fantastic effort by all concerned and Mr Cannon would like to thank Mrs Roberts and all the Bike It Crew for all their hard work and all the children and parents for their efforts.

  Ysgol Bryn Hedydd would like to wish everyone a happy Saint David's Day!
  
  We have had a lovely day participating in lots of activities to celebrate this special day in Wales.
  
  We are also very much looking forward to our Whole School Eisteddfod tomorrow where we will share in the traditions of Wales. Each Year Group will be performing, either dancing or singing.
  
  The winners will also be announced for the 3D Welsh landscape competition and the whole school 'Castles Competition'. We are all very excited!
