  • Premier League Reading Stars is up and running!

    Wed 24 Feb 2016

Mr Lloyd and Mrs Grindal were so excited when we asked them to take on the 'Premier League Reading Stars'.
As members of our team, they both see how important reading is for our children and both happen to love FOOTBALL!

Sam, Zak and Nathan from Yr 5DV.

We think it's fun and fascinating, because it's a great opportunity for us. It has inspired us to read more. It makes me enthusiastic to read more and it's really fun. It's a great idea. We get to complete tasks and activities during the sessions.

Ronan, Harley and Tom from Year 5LW

It's really good because you get to know lots about football and talk about football, whilst enjoying reading. We do lots of activities, like wordsearches and writing, but in a fun way. We get to meet up with people we know and talk about a hobby we all enjoy.

We are looking forward to a trip maybe at the end of our sessions....watch this space!

  • World OF Work Week 2015

    Sat 14 Nov 2015

    'Raising Aspirations - Challenging Stereotypes'

We always try to inspire our pupil's here in YBH, and weeks like this really enhance that!

It has been an exceptionally busy week for our pupils. They have been out and about visiting local businesses such as Vue Cinema, Morrisons, Anwyl Building Site and the Library to find out as much as they can about the world of work. Many thanks to the staff they met along the way for giving them so much information about their roles.

We have also had many many visitors come into school to visit classes and teach the children about the varied, amazing and fascinating jobs they have.  Again, a big thank you to everyone who took time out to pop in and inspire our pupil's.

It has been a hive of activity in school this week, nothing new there then you may think, but, it has been so lovely to share it with so many visitors. The week really has broadened their mind to the host of different careers they could look to have in the future, and it's taught them that, with hard work, anything is achievable!

  • Keeeeeeeeeep Dancing.......

    Fri 27 Mar 2015
An article written by Alex Worsley, 5DV

Strictly Year 5 Dancing went amazingly well. The performance was impressive and the couples wore awesome outfits that went extremely well with their dances. The judges had scored brilliantly and kept and eye out for any small mistakes.
The audience were very loud and encouraging. A massive well done to Shannon and Rhys who won in the voting and achieved the highest of scores from the judges. You could easily tell everyone tried their best and enjoyed the whole experience.

Article written by Sophie Sawyer & Georgia Hughes 5LW

On the 25th March Strictly Year 5 finals took place!
The contestants were Abbie G & Harrison, Hannah & Sam, Maddie & Bailey, Kian & Isaac, Aimee & Grace, Georgia & Liam, Lani & Callum and Seren & Niall.
The dances were Samba, Quickstep, Jive and Salsa.

Everyone enjoyed our dances even the audience had a dance to Uptown Funk.Lots of people dressed up, they all looked fantastic!!
The stage is up, the fairylights are lit. We all got called in at 1.00pm to get changed and for the girls to put their make-up on. Everyone gathered into the hall.
As Mr Vincent introduced the show the dancers got into their order. The girls got their last touch of make up on.
Amelia and Thomas B came on and opened the show with their fabulous dance routine. Everyone had wonderful comments and some harsh ones as well. After everyone danced we all did a drum roll....... and the winners were Shannon and Rhys.
  • The Premier Reading Stars visit RFC!

    Thu 19 Mar 2015

Our 'Premier Reading Stars' group had the privilege of visiting Rhyl Football Club as part of their 10 week programme.

  • The 'Biggest Bookshow on Earth' hits Bryn Hedydd!

    Thu 19 Mar 2015
On Wednesday 18th March, Year 5 took part in the 'Biggest Book Show on Earth'

It was a chance for the year group to embrace the whole school initiative of 'Reading Rocks', whilst practising their oral skills.

The children paired themselves up with children who liked the same book or author. They then worked on researching their chosen topic and coming up with a presentation. They also enjoyed preparing resources to 'dress' their table.

The hall was cleared, the tables were set up and the children got ready!
For the rest of the afternoon, other classes in the school were invited to walk round 'stations' and chat to the children about their chosen books. They were invited to ask questions too.

At half 2, we opened the doors for parents and guardians to attend. They too were given the opportunity to peruse the hall and find out lots of fascinating information!

The Year 5 group did fantastically. Lots of superb oral skills were developed during this mini project, as well as the ability to work with others, research skills and levels of confidence.

    Well done everyone involved!

take a look at some of the photos below of our enjoyable afternoon.
